I Stopped Writing About It and Started Living It

Two years ago I wrote that corporations and governments should plan for the post-labor economy before the pain arrives. A year ago I wrote that AGI-class capability was arriving on roughly an 18-month fuse and that individuals shouldn't wait for institutions to move. This month I ran out of patience with my own spectating.

So here is my announcement, and my experiment: I'm building a post-labor life in public. A portfolio of small, AI-operated income streams — software products, content systems, automated services — designed so that machine cognition does the recurring work and I do what I keep telling everyone the durable human jobs will be: direction, judgment, taste, and accountability. Home base: Hua Hin, Thailand, where geographic arbitrage makes the runway math honest. This site is the logbook.

Why do it this way

Because the playbook I keep asking institutions to write for millions of people, nobody should trust until someone has run it for one person. Every essay in this series has argued that the transition can land well — that agents plus a human editor can outproduce a payroll, that purpose can be self-assembled, that the tools are the cheapest leverage in history. Fine: demonstrate it. Revenue numbers, failed launches, tooling costs, hours worked — reported here, wins and faceplants alike.

What the first weeks taught me already

The leverage is real and the loneliness is real; both deserve reporting. An afternoon with a coding agent now ships what a contract team quoted me six weeks for in my Fortune 100 years. But no standup, no colleagues, no title — the identity questions from last month's essay showed up in my own kitchen fast. I'm solving for both: fleets of agents for the work, deliberate community for the human. That pairing, I suspect, is the actual post-labor survival kit.

Actionable Steps

If you're considering your own version: start smaller than your ego wants — one product, one audience, agent-operated end to end, while you still have other income. Instrument everything; feelings lie, dashboards don't. And write it down in public. The transition needs ten thousand documented experiments more than it needs one more prediction essay — including mine.
